Thinking with sources

Keeping the origin of a note intact while making it useful again.

What makes a note reusable is not only a good idea. It is also the ability to retain where that idea came from. Recording a source, its context, and a date can feel slower at first. It prevents a future reader from getting lost.

That is the central rule of this blog: the original post remains here as Markdown. Every piece created for another platform records the file and revision it came from. Shortening an idea does not mean erasing its history.

A small discipline

Useful metadata makes a post discoverable later through tags, an archive, an RSS feed, or a version in another language. Metadata is not administrative work. It is a way of leaving a map for a future reader.

When a source post changes, its shorter derivatives deserve another review. Automation can accelerate a draft, but it cannot take responsibility for the writing.
